App-based Contact Tracing is a Distraction

Here is a short piece I wrote after reading everything I could get my hands on related to app-based contact tracing.

  1. App-based contact tracing is a distraction, possibly a dangerous one.
  2. There is zero evidence that app-based contact tracing helps with contact tracing.
  3. Without a solid testing infrastructure in place, app-based contact tracing is totally useless.
  4. App-based contact tracing is impractical: (a) it requires a 70% or more adoption rate, which cannot be achieved; and (b) there are too many edge cases leading to both false positives and false negatives

Comments are welcome.
